'Jackets Win 2nd Straight

Calgary closed the doors to its locker room for about 15 minutes after taking a 4-1 beating at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets. While impromptu post-game meetings are not uncommon in Nationwide Arena, it was a pleasant change to learn the door to the visiting dressing room was closed.
Jeff Carter made an impact early in the game when his quick release accompanied with a slight deflection off the stick of defenseman Chris Butler gave Columbus the first goal of the game.
Nearly four minutes after Carter’s goal, Antoine Vermette reached into his bag of tricks and pulled out something spectacular. With the puck slightly behind him, the forward tucked his stick between his legs and lifted a shot over the outstretched arm of Flames’ goalie Henrik Karlsson.
Taking a two-goal lead into the first intermission gave the Blue Jackets a sizable cushion for the next 40 minutes.
In the second period, Jeff Carter scored his second goal of the night and third of the season on the power play.
The Flames’ lone goal came off the lumber of Mark Giordano who unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circles past Columbus’ goalie Curtis Sanford.
Sanford turned aside 27 of 28 shots in his third consecutive start for Columbus. Once again, he accredited his solid defense for allowing him to see shots.
Captain Rick Nash iced the game with an empty netter to give the Blue Jackets a 4-1 score.
For the second night in a row, Vinny Prospal, Jeff Carter, and Rick Nash played on the Blue Jackets’ top line. The trio that started on opening night produced five points in the game.
