Arniel Out, Richards In

As the NHL Network put it, the coaching carousel keeps on spinning. On Monday morning, the Columbus Blue Jackets fired former coach Scott Arniel and filled the void with assistant coach Todd Richards.
General Manager Scott Howson said he made up his mind to make the change last weekend, but did not want to bring down the hammer on game day. The news broke less than 24 hours after the Blue Jackets demoralizing 7-4 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
Richards, no stranger behind the bench, was named as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. During two years as coach of the Minnesota Wild, Richards compiled a 77-71-16 record. He was also a member of the coaching staff in San Jose when the Sharks posted a league-best record of 53-18-11.
Arniel, who finished in Columbus with a 45-6-18 record, is the seventh NHL coach relieved of his duties this season. He is the fifth in Blue Jackets history.
